Service Academy Nominations
One of Congressman Gill’s greatest privileges as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate exceptional young people from Texas’ 26th Congressional District to be considered for appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. (Note: The U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London, CT does not require a congressional nomination.) These prestigious institutions provide an outstanding college education to high-achieving young men and women, leading to their commissioning as officers in the United States Armed Forces.
Beginning in the spring of their junior year of high school, students may request Congressman Gill’s academy nomination packet by sending an email to TX26Academy@mail.house.gov. Requests should include the student’s name, home address, phone number(s), school name, and anticipated graduation date. The Congressman’s Academy Coordinator will respond with the nomination packet and further instructions.
Each year, congressional offices receive many applications from young men and women seeking a nomination to one of the academies. Due to the highly competitive nature of this process, applicants must demonstrate maturity, responsibility, and attention to detail in completing all required documentation. For the Academy Class of 2030, the submission deadline for all required materials is October 6, 2025.
Congressman Gill’s nomination serves as a recommendation to the academies. It is his responsibility to identify and nominate highly qualified and dedicated candidates. The four key factors considered in the evaluation process are academic performance, leadership potential, physical aptitude, and motivation for a military career. Academically, most successful academy applicants rank within the top 20% of their high school class.
To assist in the selection process, Congressman Gill has an Academy Board, which meets in late fall to conduct an objective, merit-based review of qualified applicants and hold personal interviews. Applicants selected for interviews will receive notification of the date, time, and location of their appointments.
Each congressional office may nominate up to fifteen candidates per vacancy to the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, and U.S. Air Force Academy, and up to ten candidates for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Typically, there is one vacancy per academy per year from the 26th Congressional District.
A congressional nomination does not guarantee admission to a service academy. Final selections are made exclusively by academy officials based on their comprehensive evaluation of all nominees.
Congressman Gill is honored to represent the 26th Congressional District of Texas and takes great pride in nominating outstanding students to our nation’s service academies.
