Rep. Gill’s Bill Abolishes Woke and Wasteful Government Center
Washington, D.C. — Congressman Brandon Gill (TX-26) today introduced his second bill of the 119th Congress to abolish the Fogarty International Center, a duplicative and wasteful government entity created by an executive order initially to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH), but has proven to be an unnecessary use of tax dollars and champion a left-wing propaganda.
“We are gutting government waste under President Trump’s strong America-first leadership and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency,” said Congressman Gill. “As a member of the House D.O.G.E. Subcommittee, I am doing my part through this legislation to slash unnecessary taxpayer funded programs and centers. The Fogarty International Center has a history of funding projects that are antithetical to American values and harm our nation’s global standing. The U.S. spent nearly $13 billion on global health initiatives last year—we can spare a $95 million program that pushes a woke agenda overseas and wastes taxpayer dollars.”
“Congress and D.O.G.E. must find common sense ways to save money, and abolishing the Fogarty International Center is an easy place to start,” said D.O.G.E. Chairwoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. “No one wastes money better than Washington, which is why my subcommittee will work hard to return money back to hard working Americans. I am excited to cosponsor Congressman Gill’s legislation, and I look forward to having him on the D.O.G.E. Subcommittee to combat government waste, fraud, and abuse.”

Background
- The Fogarty International Center was supposed to advance the mission of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) by supporting and facilitating global health research conducted by the U.S. However, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease is already doing international research. The Center also emphasizes a perverted view of “global health equity” and partners with the World Health Organization.
- President Trump’s budget request has previously called for eliminating the Fogarty International Center. 183 Republicans previously voted for an amendment to the FY 2024 LHHS Appropriations bill that would have zeroed out funding for the Fogarty International Center, saving $95.162 million in taxpayer dollars.
- The Fogarty International Center has funded studies and projects such as:
- Stigma Reduction and Gender Affirmation to Promote HIV Prevention Testing in Trans Women (Philippines)
- Multi-level intervention for intersectional stigma reduction to improve HIV outcomes for transgender women (Uganda)
- HIV Self Testing to Empower Prevention Choices in Sex Workers (Uganda)
- Using latent class analysis to understand the role of layered stigma on engagement in care among HIV positive women who use drugs in Ukraine.
