Rep. Gill Introduces Domestic Jobs Protection Act
Washington, D.C. — Congressman Brandon Gill (R-TX) today introduced the Domestic Jobs Protection Act which ensures no future administration can exploit discretionary work permits to revive DACA-style programs or expand illegal immigration at the expense of American workers.
The legislation reclaims Congress’s constitutional authority by removing the Department of Homeland Security’s ability to unilaterally grant work permits to illegal aliens. Moreover, the legislation ensures that only visa categories explicitly authorized by Congress can receive work authorization.
“President Trump has done more for American workers and their families than any other president,” said Rep. Gill. “It is crucial that we prevent any future administrations from doing anything to stand in the way of their success, including using work permits to usher in more illegal immigration.”
"For decades, America’s immigration system has been abused by open-border administrations to allow hundreds of thousands of aliens each year to stay and work in the United States without authorization from Congress. This mass influx of cheap labor has had a profound impact on the wages and job prospects of working-class Americans and students, who deserve a chance to build their own American dream. Congressman Gill’s Domestic Jobs Protection Act strikes the loophole that has allowed this to occur unchecked. His bill would help protect American workers, restore integrity to the immigration system, and reclaim Congressional authority over immigration policy. IAP Action is proud to support this effort," said Grant Newman, Director of Government Relations, Immigration Accountability Project.
"For too long, Americans have been forced to compete with the rest of the world for jobs here at home. The Domestic Jobs Protection Act would restrict future Administrations from being able to perpetuate this issue by closing loopholes in existing immigration law. The Bull Moose Project is proud to stand in full support of this legislation," said Aiden Buzzetti, President of the Bull Moose Project.

Background:
Under current law, the Secretary of Homeland Security has broad discretion to issue work permits through 8 U.S.C. §1324a(h)(3)(B).
This loophole has allowed millions of illegal aliens to receive Employment Authorization Documents (EADs), creating a powerful magnet for jobs.
Discretionary work permits underpin programs such as DACA, parolee work authorization, and OPT, undermining American workers and bypassing Congress.
This provision in the U.S. Code is one of the many examples of Congress handing over its constitutional authority to the executive branch, giving left-wing administrations the ability to flood our country with illegal labor.
