Rep. Gill Bill Speeds Up Criminal Alien Removal, Headed to House Floor

November 18, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Brandon Gill’s (TX-26) Expedited Removal of Criminal Aliens Act today passed the House Judiciary Committee markup and is now likely for consideration on the House floor.

“For far too long, Democrat leaders have allowed illegal aliens to get away with unspeakable crimes on our soil, turning a blind eye to the suffering American families who call this land home,” said Rep. Gill. “It’s time to empower our brave men and women in law enforcement to get foreign bad actors out of our country quickly, before they have a chance to cause more pain.”

Rep. Gill introduced the Expedited Removal of Criminal Aliens Act, which strengthens President Trump’s border security strategy by giving law enforcement the authority to swiftly remove violent criminal aliens.

This legislation expands expedited removal authority to cover violent criminal aliens, closing loopholes in the Immigration and Nationality Act. It also mandates detention and expedited removal for gang members, terrorists, and individuals convicted of violent crimes or crimes against vulnerable groups. Additionally, by ensuring that criminal aliens are ineligible for withholding of removal, the bill prevents abuse of asylum protections.

Background:

  • Under current law, traditional removal proceedings often involve years of litigation and numerous appeals and judicial opinions, even when the foreign national has been clearly convicted of a dangerous or otherwise serious crime and is removable from the United States.

  • Criminal aliens—including gang members, terrorists, and those convicted of violent crimes—are currently funneled into slower, standard removal proceedings.

  • Since 2021, over 10 million illegal aliens have entered the U.S., highlighting the urgent need for faster, stronger enforcement tools.
